“Let The Good Times Roll!”
September 22, 2010 No Comments “There is only one you for all time. Fearlessly be yourself.” -Anthony Rapp
Last Saturday night at Rey’s Voodoo Lounge was the time to play full out, without fear.
It has been years since I’ve been fortunate enough to be the featured performer, in charge of entertainment for a whole night. The pleasure of singing fueled my every step.
Now, it did not help that I arrived late. Yes, I did!
The outfit I had planned to wear didn’t suit me. I didn’t like the look and I did not feel comfortable. Can’t go far with that combination. That said, I went for something tried and true. There was not enough bling to suit me, but I had a mission to accomplish. Time was a’ wastin’ The black gypsy/peasant off the shoulder top and black jeans with stilettos would just have to do. I had an appointment to keep.
Once there, everything I needed to work with was set up. I plugged in my i-Pod, powered up the sound machine, and it was game on. I had four sets of great songs to sing.
What a pleasure seeing a full house with lots of familiar faces. Friends! That kind of support can only make a good night great!
I began the night with a jazzy rendition of the song, Smile. Then I warned the patrons that the night would go a whole lot better, if I could see their smiling faces through out my performance. I even called out a few of my friends by name when I didn’t see them smiling. I told him I’d sing the darned song at the top of each set, if they refused to comply. It was a nice moment.
I ended the night with the Michael Buble version of Sway. Dancers certainly made it to the floor for that one. Oh, the fun of it all!
Between my sets I played a nice mix of music that flowed with the time of night. It was a jazzy cocktails kind of mood between 7-9pm.. Later in the evening.. the songs got louder and more current: Timbaland to Timberlake, Hip-hop to Pop. Wild and eclectic.. but just the thing for happy people who wanted to get down.
Playing DJ was really a new thing to me, and my intention is to read the crowd even better and get stronger at it.
I am thrilled to be back in the saddle. Yippie Kai Yay!
Onward + Upward!!!
