Crape Myrtle Festival: Anything Can Happen

August 1, 2010 No Comments

Last night the Crape Myrtle Festival celebrated 30 years of fundraising in the fight against HIV/AIDS and awareness of issues impacting the gay and lesbian communities.
The Raleigh Convention Center was standing room only!

To call the event grand would be an understatement.

The night was magical with everyone showing 100 percent plus support for the group and the goal for which it stands.

I was honored to host the program. Every participant brought his/her A game. The music, songs, dance routines were top drawer— eye popping, mind-blowing to say the least.

I mean I looked at men in drag who I could swear were women. They seemed to know every nuance of what it means to be a woman. They brought it, baby!

Over the years, The Crepe Myrtle festival has raised more than one million dollars for its causes. The group is filled with volunteers who want to make a difference and change lives. Those facts are the real stories behind the big party they throw every year.

Yes, it is all about fund-raising. It is a party with a purpose. I will effort pictures, or at least a link to the site so you can see all the things that made me say WOW.

Some really good, promising things came my way from hosting the CMF and networking.

I have been invited to participate in some future events related to aids fund-raising… not as a host/emcee. I have been asked to sing at an event in October on the grounds of the state legislative building. What an honor. I am overjoyed, and eager to hear the details.
Last night I opened the CMF program with a song I love to sing because of its sassiness: Whatever Lola Wants. I have to say I was a bit compromised by the sound system, but we pulled it off. Whew!
So friends, I am making moves to take this singing dream higher and higher.
Stay tuned, okay?
