I Saw My Future.. at the Van Dyke

November 30, 2009 No Comments

"A dreamless life is an early death!."

This weekend my daughter and her very good friend Tiffany took me to South Beach.. to a music lounge called,  the Van Dyke cafe.  It overlooks Lincoln Road, and is the perfect place to experience live music.

Believe me when I tell you this:  The moment I walked upstairs into this intimate warm room, I could not stop smiling and imagining myself on that stage getting ready for a show. The vibe was just that welcoming!

I joked around with the girls telling them that it was my night and started naming all the songs I would be performing for the crowd.  A gentleman at the bar smiled and nodded.

The Van Dyke is billed as a jazz club.. and that is how the natives describe it, but everybody in the know knows it is that plus more!

The musicians who touch that stage deal in everything from funk and latin to soul and R&B in addition to jazz.

On the night I was there with Ashley and Tiffany.. a six piece ensemble called "Lanzillas" performed. They were amazing.  Yes, I know that is an overused word, amazing– but they were on fire.  Their genre’s called world fusion.  I loved it!  I was dancing in my seat. Entranced.

The stage was small, but beautifully lit.. hot with red and yellow bulbs.  The Lanzillas appeared to pour everything that was in them in every song.  Their energy was way up there. They really put on a show and I was honored to have been there that night to see them.  You could tell, they love their jobs.

What they have, is what I want.

I will never stop believing it is possible… I just got to work harder on it.  There’s a saying nothing will work unless you do.

I get it.
