So Psyched!
October 9, 2008 No CommentsI will be singing at the VA Medical Center in Durham on a regular basis. The deal has been sealed. It was easier than I thought.
When you’re dealing with a government bureaucracy as big as the VA, you can get lost in automated voice mail hell. That’s what I THOUGHT was happening to me. I mean, I left a message with what I thought was the proper department: Volunteer Programs– but deep inside I believed it would be some time before my request would get to the right person. Wrong!
Within days, Brashauna called me. She works in the nursing care unit as a recreational therapist. I told her I wanted to entertain the veterans just as often as our schedules would allow. I explained how she only needed to grant me the space.. that I had my own sound system.. that I am fully equipped to do it all! I fought to contain my giddiness for service.
We quickly came to terms. I will perform for about 35 minutes every quarter, four times a year, starting October 22nd. Woop-Woop!!!
Presently I am compiling my song list. I am most interested in learning how the songs that I sing, and my interaction with these courageous men and women will provide a measure of therapy that will help in their recoveries. This is huge to me. I expect only good times to come. Stay tuned, folks!
