Sparking A Conversation About A Song
August 25, 2008 No CommentsI would love to bring my gift of song to the upcoming SPARKcon event in the Triangle. I’ve excitedly blogged about SPARKcon in the past, but this local talent showcase is now less than a month away.
I am meeting with one of the planners of the SPARKmusic event to talk about a unique collaboration idea.
It’s all about creativity and thinking outside the box to capture ideas about the creative future of the Triangle here in North Carolina. I’ve been jazzed about this concept from the start. To me, it’s what building a creative class is all about!
So, back to that meeting I have tomorrow afternoon. The venue is a small lounge in the center of downtown (City Market).. and the evening is built around story-telling. It’s mostly a SPARKcon for writers. However, the planner wants to add a new dimension to this group later in the evening… say around 9:30pm or so. Smoky Jazz. I am not entirely sure what that means song-wise, and that’s why we are going to talk it out… see what is possible. I like that.
Now, I have a few idea about some songs that “could” be described as “Smoky”. Diana Krall songs, like: Peel Me a Grape, I’ve Got You Under My Skin, and The Look of Love. The legendary Nina Simone, could also be described as smoky. I know a couple of her songs.
It’s going to be a good meeting, whether I fit the bill or not. You see, whether I flat out participate, or just show up I’ll be bringing something to the cause. Merely, showing up is having a say.
Just in case, there’s a need for a little audition, I’m going to bring my boom box and be prepared to sing one of those songs I’ve mentioned. I’ll just burn a few songs onto a disc. No problem.
Game on!
Maybe you’d like to come. For full details on this exciting group, visit the website!
