Diva no more

That was fast.  I thought I had a good thing going… leaving my sound system at the club.  One less thing to concern myself with, preparing to perform.   Here’s the thing:  there’s no way to know for sure that your equipment is truly safe and undisturbed when it is no longer in your possession.

I had myself a rude awakening when I showed up last night for the show.  My speakers were up and installed incorrectly.  I couldn’t find the sound board anywhere.  Eventually I saw that it was still stuck behind one of the speakers and required a screwdriver to remove.  The stands for the speakers were installed the wrong way, and required the strength of two men to unstick.

I got the distinction impression that another singer– someone— has been using my system while I am away.  All indications were there.

That being said,  I showed up.. thinking I would merely have to plug in cables.  Hardly! I jumped in to hard labor mode, dressed in a stilettos and a fitted black dress.  There was sweat and upset circulating all over me, but I got it done.  People were starting to file in and I forced myself to smile and laugh as they told me I was working too hard. Arrrrghh!!!!!!

I knew that once the music played, and I began to sing songs that I love so much, my attitude would change.   I am quickly transported to a wonderful place where the good times just roll and roll and roll.  It was a good night with a great crowd of nice people.

At the end of the night, this former diva tore down every piece of equipment I own, expertly and neatly wrapped all the cords and cables.  Nothing was left behind. I packed up every piece of it, and loaded it into the truck of my car.  It will stay there from now until the next gig is booked.

Learn the lesson and move on.  Enough said.
