A Good Time Was Had By All
January 6, 2008 No CommentsLast night was thrilling. My gig at the Ratt Pack Lounge could not have been more satisfying.
My good friends Bill and Mel Stonehouse were there. Bill who is a terrific crooner had the night off, and he and Melissa invited a slew of their friends to come out and support me.
It was totally unexpected, and that’s what made it so special.
I tried something new with the sound system. I used some of my own gear and mixted it with the wiring of the house’s sound equipment. Not ideal. I am not convinced that this was a wise move. Next time, I think I’ll just keep things like they’ve always been.
I lost some of the “control” over the situation, and I didn’t like depending on the work of others to determine the outcome of how I would sound.
This whole singing experience is a learning curve each time out, and so I’m glad to have gained some knowledge from the whole thing.
I already know that singing is what lights me up. No new revelation there, but last night I was so jazzed with singing my new and old songs that I could have cared less about taking a break. Ain’t that something? It’s likely not fair to my pipes, but I ran through the first song list and kept right on singing through the second set and even some of the third!
The whole thing: being on stage, mentally geting in sync with the words and mood of a song, seeing the faces of the people, the applause– all of it–brings me joy. When it works both ways? Magic.
